Music Teacher & Sound Healer

Music as a way of life

“Music is not just a hobby. It is another branch on the tree of wellness.”

This quote has been my mantra and motto since I began teaching music nearly two decades ago. What it means to me — as a music teacher, sound healer, and practitioner of several wellness-based practices — is that music isn’t just for concert halls, studios, and practice rooms. It’s for retirement homes, yoga classes, hospitals, Buddhist temples … anywhere and everywhere. In short, music is for life.

I’m not alone in thinking this way. Ancient Greek astronomers spoke of a musica universalis or a “universal music” that thrums throughout the cosmos, reaching into every corner of space and time. This music isn’t audible, but it’s woven into the fabric of reality and it can be felt by the soul. And it’s available to everyone, not just music savants or prodigies.

I see my role as helping my students tap into this abundant energy and harness it for their own self-evolution as well as a way to bring greater health and joy into their lives. I’m so passionate about this because I’ve seen firsthand just how transformative music can be. I’ve watched student after student find not just a wonderful creative outlet, but a shift in mindset that touches every part of their life, from their mood and attitude right down to their energy level and physical health.

A whole-brain, inclusive approach to music

I take a whole-brain approach to music, building my lessons around holistic concepts that center wellness and self-awareness alongside skills and proficiency. My voice workshops in particular provide a nourishing and therapeutic experience that’s a combination of sound healing, breathwork, and singing. It’s one of the best feelings in the world when a student leaves a lesson feeling calmer, clearer, and more vibrant than when they arrived.

Because I don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching music, some of my most rewarding experiences have been with students who are typically nervous about learning music or who have a hard time with left-brain style learning, which is the common mainstream approach to musical instruction. Creative, abstract, and emotional thinkers tend to do much better in an environment that’s flexible, fun, and meets them right where they are, so that’s exactly what I aim to provide.

Whether you’re pursuing music for the first time or picking a long-dormant hobby back up, I invite you to book an online lesson with me! Students of all ages and abilities are welcome here, and I look forward to tapping into the universal healing and life-giving power of music with you.
