What We’ll Do:

Yoga for Musicians

Our first activity of the day will get us centered and ready to make music. Certain muscle groups get used more than others when we play music, and just like athletes, musicians must train their bodies to perform at an optimum level.

Sound Meditation

After lunch, we’ll settle our digestive system and focus the mind with a sound meditation using singing bowls, gongs, harmonium and piano. If the kids are interested, I’ll let them take turns helping me lead the meditation by playing some of the instruments with me.

Piano Improvisation

Each student will learn improvisation techniques and have a chance to practice improvising solos on the piano.

Magical Singing

Both words and the human voice have tremendous power! I’ll teach the kids singing techniques to help them use their full voice. I’ll also show them how singing and breathing exercises can calm the nervous system and lower stress levels, increase focus, and bring in more happiness. My singing lessons are fun and entertaining, but they also double as health classes. A double whammy!

Recording with GarageBand

We will learn the basics of how to use GarageBand and put it into practice when we record our original composition at the end of the week.

Modern Day Composing

This is how real, everyday musicians create songs: Jamming together. By improvising as a group, we will collaborate to create one uniform piece of music that we will record and perform at the end of the week.

Rhythm/Percussion

The ultimate practice for improving your rhythm! We will have a daily drum circle to get used to creating our own rhythms and beats, as well as tightening up our own inner metronome.

Nutrition for Musicians

During lunch and snack, the kids will learned how hydration, antioxidants, colorful fruits and vegetables and fiber are important for maintaining the amount of energy it takes to both play AND focus on a musical instrument. All meals will be whole food plant based and homemade.

Musical Journaling

Using drawing, collage, and writing we will explore the unique qualities and gifts we each possess that contributes to who we are as musicians and what can help us build our own unique sound. The goal is to step away from the instruments and figure out who each child is as a music maker.
